2021 After Five Wine Co.
Primitivo

$35.00

Vibrant colour, complex aromas of cherry, cinnamon quill, tobacco, strawberry conserve and chocolate bullets. A medium to full bodied palate that has a supple almost velvety feel. Sweet fruit engulfs the palate but is balanced by textural tannin followed by noticeable acidity giving a refreshing finish. Flavours of sweet spice, licorice make this wine very morish.

Vineyard:
Keady Vineyard - Moppa.
The site is around 310-320m above sea level with an eastly aspect. Soil consists of a brown loam over shallow red clay with shattered ironstone. The vineyard was planted in 2002 and is own rooted, clone is unknown. The vines are spur pruned with the mid rows cultivated to winter active fescue.

Winemaking:
The fruit was picked on the 24th March.
All the fruit was destemmed and lightly crushed (rollers open) to 1 x open fermenter with header boards. Temperatures were allowed to reach 28C, and the open was pumped over 3 times per day. After 9 days on skins the open fermenter was basket pressed and transferred into 1-4 year old French oak hogsheads and underwent malo-lactic fermentation. After malo-lactic fermentation the wine was racked from barrel, SO2 was added and then the wine was then transferred back to the same oak and matured for another 14 months. No finings used.
